Noah as a new progenitor of humanity (his sons now branching forth into the world) stands as a rescued worshiper, beside his new altar of thanksgiving. The waters of the mighty but conquered flood are receding. The mountain once submerged, has reappeared, and now sustains the resting Ark, that has released from their narrow confines the beasts and birds of nature. Fitting symbol of "that victory which overecometh the world, even our faith" at rest trustfully upon the Ararat of God's enduring holiness and mercy. The fire of devotion is consuming the Lamb of sacrifice. Stone upon stone the new altar of worship has been erected and dedicated to its highest uses. Over the head of the praying patriarch, like an aureola, the many tinted rainbow spans the scene; hallowing it with assurance of God's Fatherly presence and his precious promise of constant preservation of world until the end. |
