Christmas Eve & Day Services

 

4 pm Prayerful Service of Holy Communion with organ music for prelude and postlude, and carol-singing by  the congregation

7 pm Family Service of Holy Communion  the children of Grace, ages 3-6th grade will be presenting "People Look East" a Christmas play which involves the pantomiming of various key bible readings and also involves them in all aspects of the service liturgy


10 pm Festive Service of Holy Communion. The service is preceded by about thirty minutes of music for brass, strings, organ, and choir.  A featured work in the prelude will be a newly-composed piece for guitar and strings by Millersville University professor, Rusty Banks, who is also the guitar soloist.  The choir will sing "Make We Merry on This Fest" by Andrew Carter, "Ave Maria" by Philip Stopford, "Alleluia: A New Work Is Come on Hand" by Michael Emery, "Sweet Was the Song" by Grayston Ives, and the "Et Incarnatus Est" from the B Minor Mass of J. S. Bach.  In addition the choir and strings perform recitatives and the chorus, "Glory to God" from Handel's Messiah during the reading of the Christmas gospel.  As is the custom at Grace, the service concludes with Handel's "Hallelujah" chorus, also from Messiah, by the choir and orchestra with congregational participation.  All hymn and carol-singing in the service is accompanied by orchestra, brass quintet, and organ in arrangements by Dr. Karl E. Moyer.  The service begins with Dr. Moyer's new arrangement of the carol, "Once in Royal David's City."
