Ensemble Chaconne - Le Grand Siècle
Court and Salon music in France,
1650 - 1750 on period instruments
Ensemble Chaconne enthralls audiences with dramatic period-instrument performances of music from Renaissance and Baroque Europe. Repertoire ranges from well-known masterpieces to recently discovered works. The trio of transverse flute, viola da gamba, and lute or guitar, so popular in the 16th to 18th centuries, is rarely heard today. Peter H. Bloom (flute), Carol Lewis (gamba), and Olav Chris Henriksen (lute, theorbo and early guitar) bring exhilaration and theatrical intensity to an intimate chamber setting.
The three musicians have performed together since 1985, while also appearing in solo recitals and concertizing widely with other ensembles. Over the years, Ensemble Chaconne has achieved precision of ensemble and graceful interplay as a trio, while highlighting the strength and expressiveness of each individual.
Ensemble Chaconne is a member of the New England States Touring Program and the Massachusetts Cultural Council Performing and Touring Roster, and the South Carolina Arts Commission's Artists-in Education Roster.

February 17, Sunday, 4:00 p.m.
Rusty Banks, guitar
(and also composer, conductor, and teacher)
on the faculty at Millersville University
If you attended the 10 pm
Christmas Eve service, you heard Rusty playing Vivaldi's Concerto in D with the
string orchestra and were introduced to his very fine musicianship.
His concert, entitled
"Friction," features works which derive energy from a contradiction,
contrast, or incongruity. Included are
traditional pieces by Bach and Villa Lobos, and works by several living
composers, including Banks himself.
This concert will be
followed by a buffet supper in Fellowship Hall, the
Lenten study at 6:30 pm, and Compline at 8 pm.
March 30, Sunday, 4:00 p.m
Karl Moyer, F.A.G.O.
retired professor, Millersville University,
and former organist of Grace Church
Sixty Years as an Organist
A wide variety of music....
something for everyone!
Grace member and a former
Organist/Director, Karl Moyer, is coming out of retirement to play this major
recital - a celebration of "Sixty Years as an Organist (and
counting!)"
This concert has something
for everyone - from the light-hearted to the profoundly spiritual. Karl will play his own arrangement of
Stephen Foster's, "I Dream of Jeanie with the Light Brown Hair." A rarely heard work, Karg-Elert's
"Fugue, Canzona, and Epilogue" will be performed with the assistance
of violinist, Carolyn Moyer, and local women's vocal ensemble,
"Lorelei," under the direction of Dorothea Parrish. A former student of Moyer's, Dr. Stephen Katzenmoyer,
will be present to sing the Philadelphia Eagle's "fight song;" then
Karl will play Katzenmoyer's "Fugue and March" based on the tune
"Fly, Eagles, Fly."
The audience and Grace
Choir members John Saeger, Gail Rittenhouse, and Jason Keen will sing a
favorite Easter-season hymn, "O Sons and Daughters," followed by the
organ "Toccata" by Lynwood Farnam on this hymn. Much-loved organ pieces by Franck,
Beethoven, Schumann, and Titcomb are included in the program, and the concert
concludes with Bach's Prelude and Fugue in E-flat. The fugue "subject" resembles the tune of the hymn, "O God, Our Help in Ages
Past."
Be a part of this very
special musical event, and help us celebrate Karl's milestone anniversary. As usual, a great meal will follow in
Fellowship Hall.
