Worship at Grace

Welcome to Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church!

We are pleased to greet you in the name of our Risen Lord.

We gather in holy fellowship with all the saints of every time and place, to thank and praise Almighty God, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. God gracefully nourishes us with His Word and Holy Sacraments. And then He sends us to out to serve our neighbors in his behalf.

Taking Part

Grace's liturgical style of worship will be very familiar to many visitors. Our Lutheran order of worship is very similar to that used in Roman Catholic and Anglican churches. Our worship is interactive, with every member of congregation taking part in both proclaiming the Word of God and responding to it. Lively music plays a big part!

We hope that every visitor at Grace will be fed by God's Word and Sacraments. The members surrounding you would all love to be of assistance to you. Please tell us if we can help. We hope that you will return.

The Worship Service

Christian worship was and continues to be unique in the celebration of Holy Communion on Sunday, -- the "first day of the week." Combined with the Jewish Synagogue tradition of reading and preaching from the Holy Scriptures, prayer, and singing of praise to God, our services follow this ancient tradition.

God's Word

The Scripture readings each Sunday and Festival are common readings and themes shared across denominational lines on any given day. Over time, we use music from nearly every period of the Christian tradition, as well as from the various cultures where Christianity is currently playing a vital role. In these ways, we are linked with the whole Church, the People of God, in very tangible ways.

Communion

God's Word of promise makes us members of the Church through Holy Baptism. We invite all baptized Christians, of any age or denomination, to receive Holy Communion with us, sharing in our Lord's Body and Blood which is truly present in the bread and wine. Through our celebration of Word and Sacrament, we are the catholic (universal) Church in this place, worshiping the Triune God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit!

To Receive Communion

Approach the altar freely by any aisle; take a place at the rail when one opens near you. You may receive the wine from either the common chalice or an individual glass. Simply hold up empty hands to receive the common chalice, or pick up a glass. Please know that your participation in communion is complete whether you receive one or both elements. Children or those not communing for some reason are welcome to come forward for a prayer of blessing from the Pastor.

Our Hymnals

The complete order of worship is in the Worship Bulletin (provided by an Usher when one enters the Sanctuary). The Worship Bulletin references Hymns by number that can be found in the green Lutheran Book of Worship (LBW) and the blue With One Voice (WOV), both found on the pew shelf. The LBW or WOV hymn numbers refer to the large numbers in the hymn sections which make up the rest of each book.
